Welcome to fiwal

Established in March 1986, fiwal is one of London’s unique organisations that highlight the international nature of the city. Fiwal acts as an umbrella organisation for international women’s associations based in and around London. Our mission is to provide a forum for the exchange of information, ideas and expertise between members. 



Fiwal’s formation stemmed from the strong belief that, if women of different races, religions and cultures from national associations could meet in a strictly non-political but structured and relaxed manner, they would find common ground through shared interests which would benefit their organisations and individual membership. The idea was first conceived at a luncheon at the South African Embassy attended by five national women’s association Presidents. Soon thereafter, it was proposed to other international associations in London and 50 women from around the globe came to an initial meeting at the iconic Café Royal. Later that year, fiwal was launched officially at the historic Banqueting Hall in Whitehall that attracted 460 women from 14 associations that came together to form fiwal.



Currently we have 30 member associations, many nationalities and an aggregate membership of over 2,500 women. Fiwal promotes the activities of its members so that individuals of these associations can attend each other’s events that will enable them to experience cultures other than their own as well as what we have in common -  the basis for true friendship and understanding. As our members grow in understanding, our mutual support and strength will flourish.



As fiwal President, I chair the Executive Committee which is responsible for it’s day to day operation. The Executive is made up of members of our associations and a new President is elected every two to three years from the Executive. We are supported by the fiwal Advisory Board which is made up of Past fiwal Presidents. To find out who we are click below…
