sharing knowledge and insights to empower women

Fiwal organises a conference every other year to enable delegates to hear distinguished speakers addressing current affairs and societal issues, usually pertaining to women as well as to highlight its cross-cultural nature and to promote understanding. Through these opportunities, the mission of fiwal has thrived.

Women’s Health: Mind, Body and Myth

May 2023

After the disruption of Covid, our long-awaited conference was held at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill hotel. We had a wonderful panel of speakers, Dr Hannah Nazri who talked about gender bias in medicine, Deborah Garlic, Founder and CEO of Henpicked, who explained about the impact of menopause in the workplace and how vital it is for employers to implement supportive policies. Dr Vidhi Patel spoke about holistic health issues, mental health, nutrition and supplements. Anshu Bahanda, founder of Wellness Curated, was our MC for the day, inspiring us with wellness tips in-between our speakers.

Our Past President, Latifa Kosta, gave a few words about fiwal and the conference. Our grateful thanks to her for all her support.

Our impressive moderator, Melissa Morbeck, chaired the panel discussion and Q&A session before we broke for networking in the library, then a delicious lunch back in the ballroom. Melissa is the Global Director of Partnerships for the No More Foundation. She spoke about her work and the campaign to end domestic and sexual violence.

Vaso Louca took us through a relaxing guided meditation and the day finished with songs from our member club, the Barcarolle Choir, who believe that singing is good for your mental health.

All those attending took home a goody bag and memories of an engaging day.

One attendee described the day as: ‘a lovely balance of professional and reliable health information and entertainment. The catering was nice too’.
